This Tony Award-winning musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel will kick off Aurora’s Season 29 — A Feast for the Soul. Follow the unforgettable journey of Celie as she discovers her own strength and resilience in the face of extreme adversity. The joyous musical features an enthralling score that blends gospel, jazz, and blues. Originally developed in Atlanta at the Alliance Theatre in 2004, and most recently a 2023 smash-hit movie, Aurora welcomes home this epic story that is a testament to the healing power of love.

Artist-To-Artist Dance Workshop: Color Purple 
with Dance Canvas, taught by Akeem Edwards

After having our first Sold Out workshop, we added another dance Workshop due to popular demand! Dance Canvas and Aurora Theatre invite Broadway dreamers of all ages to learn a dance inspired by the elegance of The Color Purple. Join professional dancer/choreographer Akeem Edwards as he provides his instruction & expertise while teaching a graceful dance routine. Classes are free and open to the public. Space is limited and registration is required. If under 18, a waiver must be submitted to participate.

With the vision of diversifying the artistic voices being presented in professional dance, growing opportunities for artists in the region, and attracting new audiences, Dance Canvas successfully accomplishes our mission through three program areas of service: Choreographer Career Development, Youth Outreach/Leadership, and Community Engagement. 

  

Since 2008, Dance Canvas has been an integral part of developing artistic opportunities for dancers in metro Atlanta. Through our Choreographer Career Development Initiative, we have provided employment, resources and presented over 100 new works by 126 emerging professional choreographers. We have featured over 300 professional dancers and performed for over 20,000 Atlanta audiences.
