The Educational Mission
The Lawrenceville Arts Center is not just another performing arts center for road shows and weddings. During COVID, Aurora recognized that many children in Gwinnett are living in poverty. Students had no internet to attend school, much less a tablet or any kind of computer to do homework on. For 25 years, Aurora has served low to moderate income children and now with the opening of the School of the Arts at Central Gwinnett High School, and our continued partnership with Georgia Gwinnett College, we will regularly be working with underserved communities. Our Gwinnett children have experienced TRAUMA, plain and simple, and we plan to take their adverse childhood experiences and create powerfully expressive ways for our children to work through this pain. Wouldn’t it be great to come into the courtyard and see sculpture or chalk art created by Gwinnett youth that resides on the same campus as world renowned art? Wouldn’t it be powerful to hear spoken word, original music, or see a hip hop ballet on our outdoor stage? These artistic opportunities will partner well with a new donor area designated to help students learn to hone their resumes, dress for success, network, and develop their personal elevator speech; all that in addition to our continued workforce development in the Creative Culture industry. You are sure to see high school students behind our lighting and sound consoles, learning from the pros. The courtyard will provide FREE Wi-Fi, an outdoor stage that we intend to fill to overflowing with young performers, artists, dancers.
