Amee Vyas
Amee Vyas has been a fixture of Atlanta theatre for 18 years, and a mainstay of Atlanta’s only year-round Shakespeare repertory ensemble, the Atlanta Shakespeare Company (ASC), for 16 years. She came to Atlanta and the theater world after stints in Public Relations and Graphic Design was not enough to get the acting bug out of her system. She was able to combine her administrative skills with her love for performance arts by joining the ASC staff as the Development Associate and eventually as Art Manager and Graphic Designer for the Marketing Department. As Development Associate, Amee managed grants for the final push of the Shakespeare Tavern’s multi-million dollar façade renovation capital campaign and helped secure funding with the NEA’s Shakespeare for a New Generation Program. She then helped to bring the designing of marketing and program materials in-house and assisted with brand management.
While at ASC, Amee earned her Actors Equity card performing as Viola in Twelfth Night; becoming the area’s first, and for a time only, Asian-Indian actress to join the professional union. She is a co-founder of East by Southeast, the only arts festival in the southeast to feature work by and of American artists of Asian-descent. Most recently, she was the Seattle-based Fern Shakespeare Company’s first resident guest director, directing Othello. She is also a private dialect coach and is a guest text coach for new Apprentice actors with ASC. In her free time, she makes a delicious martini as a part-time bartender and bar program consultant.
