Marcelo Tabor
Marcelo Tabor– Marcelo Tabor is a painter, sculptor, and printmaker, with a career in the film industry as a mechanical effects technician and coordinator. He received a BFA in photography and printmaking at Guilford College in 2003, and trained as a blacksmith and metal fabricator in a number of Atlanta area workshops beginning in 2006. An early interest in
painting faded, but was rekindled after the death of a close friend and avid painter. His current work focuses primarily on pictorial narrative imagery; finding the surreal in everyday scenes. Born in Eastpoint, Georgia, and raised in Stone Mountain and Decatur, he spent summers in Guadalajara, Jalisco and Monterrey, Nuevo Leon with his mother’s family. These environments heavily influenced his aesthetic. As a young child his mother took him to see the murals of Jose Clemente Orozco and David Alfaro Siqueiros scattered throughout Guadalajara. These great works were seen alongside the common advertising murals that were still found everywhere one went in Mexico. Back home in Atlanta, Marcelo was discovering the beauty of graffiti and hunting down pieces by HENSE and SEVER and Mr.Fangs to photograph. When he began painting again in 2018, all these images heavily influenced his work.
